Welcome
The Nutrition Alphabet
"Food Literacy is the ability to organise one´s everyday nutrition in a self-determined, responsible and enjoyable way."
In schools and in the family, transfer of knowledge about nutrition aspects is diminishing, leading to a new type of "culinary illiteracy". More and more people know less and less about the origin and quality distinctions of food and cannot prepare a proper meal. The results are increasing health risks and the economic costs of improper nutrition.
At the same time, culinary cultures are changing due to new social developments. Traditional nutrition habits are losing their importance. Food scandals, abundance of food and contradictory food and diet recommendations put increasing pressure on to the organisation of daily nutrition.
A new demand for educational opportunities arises - also and especially for disadvantaged target groups
Knowing and Eating
Our project is designed as a contribution to a nutrition culture based upon sustainability, individual self-determination and the joy of eating. It
- introduces Food Literacy as a new horizontal theme into adult education and counselling,
- sensitises multipliers and trainers in adult education and people in counselling organisations working with less educated target groups
- develops materials in order to integrate Food Literacy into various educational and counselling opportunities - from the computer course to debt counselling
- enables trainers and counsellors to make Food Literacy more accessible to their clients
We invite you to the table!
The project team is developing
- a manual "Guidelines for Introducing Food Literacy as Horizontal Theme into Adult Education and Adult Counselling" with a lot of useful information for daily practice
- a "Toolbox" containing materials and methods that can be used in various educational and counselling activities
- seminars and workshops for multipliers
All materials will be available on the project website for free down-load.
